Apply for a grant

What you need to know if you plan to apply for an EMDG in the next grant round.

Before you apply

Applying for Round 4

The next grant round is Round 4. Round 4 grants are for eligible activities in the 2025–26 and 2026 –27 financial years.

Round 4 will open at different times for each tier. The times and dates are:

  • Representative bodies, applications open AEDT 10am on 6 November 2024
  • Tier 1 – ready to export, applications open AEDT 10am on 12 November 2024
  • Tier 2 – exporting within existing markets, applications open AEDT 10am on 12 November 2024
  • Tier 3 – exporting to new key markets, applications open AEDT 10am on 12 November 2024.

Applications must be submitted through our EMDG online portal.

The EMDG online portal will close for applications when the Round 4 funding is fully allocated for each tier, including some allowance for eligibility checking and non-acceptance of grant agreements.

The closing date and time for each tier will depend on demand and how quickly the funding has been fully allocated.

We will regularly communicate the status of the total funding allocation by tier. This will be available on the Austrade corporate website and on the EMDG online portal.

Number of grants and expected demand

Grant funding is limited. If applicants apply for the maximum grant amounts, in Round 4 we expect to allocate around:

  • 500 grants for Tier 1 applicants
  • 620 grants for Tier 2 applicants
  • 650 grants for Tier 3 applicants
  • 130 grants for representative bodies.

We expect a high level of interest for this grant opportunity. We assess applications in the order we receive them. We treat all applications the same, regardless of who has lodged them.

Consistent with other commonwealth grant programs, not all applicants will receive funding. To improve your chance of success, we encourage you to:

  • prepare your application in advance
  • submit your application as soon as possible when your tier opens.
