Check eligibility and requirements

Consider if an EMDG is right for your business or representative body.

We will only consider applications that meet all eligibility criteria.

Eligibility requirements are outlined in the EMDG guidelines on Guidelines and legislation. Read the Round 4 EMDG Guidelines for detailed eligibility requirements for all grant tiers. Register for our free EMDG eligibility and prepare to apply webinars to find out more.

We establish the eligibility framework for EMDG using the Export Market Development Grants Act 1997 and the Export Market Development Grants Rules 2021.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs)

Your business may use grants for marketing and promotional activities. You may also use Tier 1 grants for export training if you are ready to export.

Your SME business may be eligible in one of these tiers:

  • Tier 1 – ready to export
  • Tier 2 – exporting within existing markets
  • Tier 3 – exporting to new key markets.

Representative bodies

Representative bodies are organisations or associations promoting the interests of a group of Australian businesses.

As a representative body, you may be eligible for a grant in Round 4 if you do one or both of the following:

  • offer export training to members in your sector or industry
  • undertake new export promotional activities on behalf of your small and medium enterprise members.
