Timor-Leste’s mining sector holds strong opportunities for Australian exploration and mining equipment, technology and services (METS) businesses.
The country is issuing a new public tender of minerals tenements in early 2025. Austrade recently hosted a webinar to provide Australian businesses with more information on opportunities that will arise out of the tender.
Timor-Leste's Minister for Petroleum and Mineral Resources Francisco da Costa Monteiro was a guest speaker at the webinar.
He says the country has exciting geology and investment opportunities and a robust framework in place to support resource development.
Minister Monteiro welcomed Australian businesses with technical expertise, specialist equipment and services to explore opportunities in Timor-Leste as the country continues realising its minerals potential.
The webinar also featured a keynote presentation from Autoridade Nacional dos Minerais (ANM) President Rafael D M de Araújo.
President Rafael provided an overview of Timor-Leste’s minerals regulatory and governance framework. This included the Mining Code and Legal Framework, outlining how exploration companies could acquire mineral rights.
President Rafael also shared a tentative timeline for a Mineral Public Tender Licensing Round scheduled for 2025.
