Australian METS shaping the future of minerals in the Middle East

Austrade supported Australian METS companies at the region’s premier mining event.

Australian mining equipment, technology and services (METS) were in the spotlight at the Future Minerals Forum (FMF) in Saudi Arabia.

FMR is emerging as one of the most significant events of its kind in the Middle East. This year’s event, held on 13–15 January, attracted more than 20,000 attendees from over 170 countries. More than 250 Australian delegates attended the event.

The distinctive Australia Pavilion was a hive of activity at FMF, with attendees stopping to make connections and find out more about Australian METS. Supported by the Austrade team, the pavilion showcased a range of Australian METS and mining innovation.

Austrade was proud to support 6 Australian companies at the Australia Pavilion:

  • AMC Consultants
  • Byrnecut
  • Ibaera Capital
  • VERIDAPT
  • Juno Minerals
  • WA1 Resources.

Sharing Australian METS insights

Austrade Trade and Investment Commissioner Todd Miller was a keynote speaker at the event, providing an outline of Australian METs capabilities and expertise. This included a video showcasing Australian METS capability produced by Austrade.

Miller provided the mostly Saudi Arabian audience with insights into Australia’s mature and sustainable mining sector, in addition to sharing information on the mining services opportunities in the Kingdom.

Ten Australian speakers also presented at the event, including senior executives from Fortescue, BHP and Rio Tinto.

Austrade organised a webinar in the lead up to FMF, hosted by the Australia Saudi Business Forum (ASBF). The webinar featured Minister for Resources Madeleine King, the Saudi Minister for Mining Resources Bandar Alkhoraraf and Vice Minister Khalid Al-Mudaifer. Austrade and ASBF also hosted a welcome reception for Australian delegates prior to FMF.

‘The Middle East region, and more specifically Saudi Arabia, can provide many opportunities for Australian METS companies,’ says Miller. ‘As part of the Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom is working to lessen its reliance on oil and gas, with diversification to critical minerals and rare earth explorations. It is also developing processing and manufacturing hubs.’

Austrade has a presence at the world’s major mining and METS events, including Expomin, Mongolia Mining and GRX25. Contact the Austrade METS team to stay in touch for future events.
