Australia served up an irresistible smorgasbord of food and drinks for international buyers at Fine Food Australia in Melbourne in early September.

Now in its 40th year, Fine Food Australia is the leading trade event for the Australian food industry. The event attracts thousands of Australian and overseas visitors every year, eager to see and taste new food and beverages for the retail, bakery and hospitality sectors.

Buyers from 11 countries joined more than 100 of Austrade’s food and beverage exporter clients at the event. Representatives from Global Victoria, Investment NSW, Food South Australia and Trade Tasmania were also present to support exporters from their states.

Austrade’s acting General Manager for South Asia, Monica Kennedy (centre), stopped by the event to share insights on exporting to the region.

Making international connections

Austrade organised 220 meetings over 4 days between Australian exporters and international buyers. This year, buyers were particularly interested in packaged food and non-alcoholic beverages. Many additional meetings and conversations also took place at exhibitors’ stands during the event.

Austrade also organised a program of back-to-back meetings with the nominated importer for a leading US premium retailer. The retailer is looking to greatly expand its range of high-quality products from Australia.

Austrade’s acting General Manager for South Asia, Monica Kennedy, also stopped by the expo, providing insights for companies interested in exporting to South Asia.

Austrade Business Development Managers from South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, India and New Zealand also shared information and insights on opportunities in their markets
