Tailored trade support charges

Find out how charging for tailored trade support works, what we charge for and what support we offer.

Recommencing charging for tailored trade support

Austrade has recommenced charging Australian businesses for tailored trade support. During the COVID pandemic, we paused our charging services but will restart charging for some tailored support, so we can keep delivering our high-quality trade services.

Which Austrade services cost money

Some Austrade services now incur a fee, including:

  • tailored trade support such as a Tailored Services Package
  • participation in trade events and delegations.

Data services and subscriptions for Tourism Research Australia and Education Data and Insights are also available for a fee.

Which Austrade services are free

All Australian businesses have access to free support from Austrade through the digital Go Global Toolkit.

All Australian businesses continue to have access to up to 2 hours of trade support for free.

Some businesses will be able to participate in free programs with a specific geographic or sectoral focus. We will publish information about these programs on our websites.

Tailored Services Packages fees

A Tailored Services Package is an AUD$3,000 fixed-fee package of agreed tailored support that:

  • provides a client with tailored advice, connections and support to help them grow their exports
  • takes approximately 15 hours to complete
  • is usually focused on a single international market.

Type of support included in a Tailored Services Package

The type of support will be agreed with Austrade prior to commencement based on your needs.

Austrade’s trade support is divided into 3 key areas:

  • Advice: Information, insights and strategic advice to help you select international markets and develop an export strategy.
  • Connections: Introductions to key contacts, business matching and in-market support (e.g. events) to help you understand a market and grow your sales.
  • Support: Hands-on in-market support to facilitate exports, solve trade barriers, and help you raise your company profile.

Austrade’s expert trade support services are delivered in good faith and do not guarantee commercial success.

Participating in an Austrade event

Information on upcoming Austrade events, both in Australia and overseas, is available on the Events webpage or advised by Austrade.

If you are interested in participating in an event, you can register online or contact the nominated representative if you need any further information. For some events requiring an expression of interest, Austrade’s sectoral and in-country experts will review all applicants.

Austrade tailored trade support as an EMDG eligible expense

The EMDG Act and Rules do not exclude Austrade support from being claimed as an eligible expense, provided the business satisfies all other eligibility criteria.

Why was charging reintroduced

Charging businesses for tailored trade support was temporarily paused during the COVID pandemic. As COVID pressures have eased, Austrade has reintroduced charging for tailored trade support.

Income from Austrade’s tailored trade support helps us deliver services to more Australian businesses in more markets, reaching more international customers.

Austrade’s commercial expertise also provides significant value-for-money to businesses looking to export to international markets, and fees are subsidised to ensure they are affordable for businesses.

Charging applies to businesses serviced by TradeStart advisers

Clients working with TradeStart advisers who receive tailored trade support from Austrade’s offshore network will need to pay for a Tailored Services Package in most cases, consistent with other Austrade clients.

Why we use fixed fees

Our new fee structure is simpler and provides more value for clients. The introduction of the subsidised Tailored Services Package is intended to allow clients to strategically work with Austrade to develop and execute specific export plans, rather than work with Austrade on a one-off or transactional basis.

Options other than a Tailored Services Package

If your business has unique requirements and you would benefit from a bespoke solution, you can contact your Austrade account manager to discuss alternative options.
