Dominic is based in the Australian Embassy in Beijing. He leads a team of over 80 staff across 7 offices in the greater China region, and speaks Chinese.
Dominic joined Austrade in 2024 as General Manager, Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. This follows 32 years as a diplomat, lawyer and trade negotiator with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
His overseas experience includes postings as Australian Consul-General in Shanghai and Guangzhou. Dominic led the Australian Government's representation in two of the most important regions of mainland China for Australia's trade, investment and economic interests. He has also served as deputy Head of Mission in the Australian Mission to the World Trade Organisation in Geneva, and the Australian High Commission in Singapore.
Dominic has also worked as a commercial lawyer in Melbourne. He holds arts (East Asian studies) and law degrees from the University of Melbourne. Dominic was also admitted as a lawyer in the Victorian and Federal jurisdictions in 1989.
Dominic has a Graduate Diploma in Foreign Affairs and Trade from the Australian National University. He also completed a Senior Management Program at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.
He has over 10 years' experience working in China to support Australian trade, investment and economic interests.
