Daniel O’Toole is Austrade’s Trade and Investment Commissioner and Deputy Consul-General to San Francisco. Daniel works with Austrade’s teams across the United States with a particular focus on supporting the Australian Government’s Net Zero agenda.
Daniel joined Austrade in 2016. He was most recently the Sector Director for Space within Austrade’s Defence and Space Group. During this time, Daniel was partially embedded within the Australian Space Agency. He worked to promote inter-agency alignment and co-design initiatives that supported sector-related trade and investment opportunities.
Prior to joining Austrade, Daniel spent 6 years working across 2 Japanese organisations that worked to build partnerships in Australia. This included a stint with the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals Organisation (JOGMEC). He also spent several years working for the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), helping to connect Australian and Japanese businesses.
Daniel speaks fluent Japanese. He holds a Bachelor of International Studies from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Strategic Affairs from the Australian National University.
