Annika Barton is based in London where she commenced her posting as Trade and Investment Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland in 2024. Annika is an experienced trade and investment practitioner with strong capabilities in international business development and strategic planning, with a particular focus on the technology sector.

Prior to this role, Annika was the Trade and Investment Commissioner to the Netherlands, Nordics and Baltics. She established the new Austrade Amsterdam and Austrade Vilnius Posts, building those teams and driving closer trade and investment relationships with Australia.

In management roles across Austrade's Trade and Investment Divisions in Sydney Annika was responsible for:

  • leading Austrade's global Landing Pad program and the alignment of Austrade's suite of services for high growth, tech-driven scale ups to fast-track their international growth
  • designing and implementing Austrade's Fintech Trade and Investment Program supporting fintech exporters and investors
  • negotiating for the development of the Australia-UK Fintech Bridge
  • representing Austrade in a secondment to Innovation Science Australia Taskforce
  • providing trade and investment expertise for the development of the 'Australia 2030: Prosperity through Innovation' strategy paper.

In 2019, Annika held the Trade and Investment Commissioner role in San Francisco, where she managed the Americas Region Cyber Security Sector Team and the San Francisco Landing Pad.

Annika has extensive public sector experience, with a particular focus on the intersection of government and industry. Before joining Austrade, Annika worked at the NSW Department of Industry where she developed strategies and programs to address skills shortages and boost Australia's economic prosperity.
