Adrian Weeks is the Trade and Investment Commissioner based in Port Moresby. He is responsible for assisting Australian companies to do business and capitalise on emerging opportunities in Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.
Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands attract a high volume of Australian exporters. Australian capabilities are valued and in demand. This is due to the close geographic proximity of Australia and the wide supply chains Australia has to provide a broad range of products. In terms of services, Australia is a dominant market for tourism and education services.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic the main sectors that attract Australian products and services are mining and technology, agribusiness, infrastructure and energy services, building and construction materials. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a turning point for increased demand for health services and the virtual delivery of service exports.
Adrian has undertaken assignments in India, South Pacific and Thailand.
Prior to Austrade Adrian held business development positions with Tourism Australia for twelve years based in London, Los Angeles and Sydney. He worked in the transport sector for Queensland Rail for six years.
Adrian has a MBA from Griffith University. In his spare time Adrian enjoys refereeing basketball.
