Selection process

An Austrade selection panel selects and recruits successful candidates.

Selection panel and process

A selection panel usually includes 2 or 3 staff members. The process takes about 4 to 8 weeks. The panel assesses all applications. They then agree on the candidates who progress to the next stage of the assessment process.

The selection process may involve:

  • interviews face-to-face or via video
  • written or verbal testing, including psychological or aptitude testing
  • work sample testing
  • reference checking.

We notify candidates via email on the status of their application at all stages of the assessment process.

Reference checks

The panel performs reference checks for candidates in strong contention for the role. The panel advises candidates before contacting referees.

Deciding on a candidate

The panel will make a recommendation to the delegate which candidate(s) best represents the requirements of the role.

The delegate will endorse both the recommendation and that a merit-based selection process has been undertaken.

Contacting applicants

We will make a verbal and written offer to the selected candidate.

We notify unsuccessful candidates who were interviewed if they are unsuccessful. We can also give feedback to these candidates on request.
